Urban Harvest Caravan SOUND CIRCLE, this Sunday, August 23rd, at 1pm.

Hello hello beautiful soundmakers,

your sound-making help is requested, this coming Sunday, August 23rd, at 1pm!

My friend Van Ferrier, is organizing an amazing free event called "Urban Harvest Caravan" which is taking a group of people on bikes through various 'green' locations in the city.
Explorations of local art, gardening projects, biking, fun, etc.
Some of the stops are listed here:
http://caravane.tumblr.com/

anyone and everyone can participate.
It all starts around noon at Jarry Park, where the amazing "Salsa Descalza" salsa collective from Colombia is leading impromptu salsa and yoga for the Caravaners.

The next stop is the Roerich Garden, around 1pm. It is in a small meadow located behind the building that stands at 5555 De Gaspé, corner St-Viateur (there is a passage in between buildings to get there, or you can approach the building from behind, on Henri-Julien street).

Van asked me what would be a good meditative and interactive event that could take place in the Garden. what comes to mind is: Experimental Choir!

So, let's join forces and meet on Sunday afternoon and lead the people through a wonderful sound journey! Sound explosions for their Brains. Natural setting & Goodness. They will be invited to get off their bikes, and enter the SOUND CIRCLE. It will be a short, 30-minute activity (but of course everyone can stay and keep on jamming afterwards), and then the bike Caravan people will leave again around 1:45pm or 2pm to go to the next stop. Many of the people on the Caravan might never have done improv singing before, but I have a feeling they will enjoy it a lot, and it is a good oppurtunity for us to reach our green tendrils out and jam with the community.

If you can come, just show up at 1pm on Sunday. If you have some ideas of what we could do, feel free to write back. I am imagining some grounding and vocal warm-ups, then singing games. If you want to lead a vocal experiment, please write to experimentalchoir@gmail.com

for questions at the last minute, please phone me on my cell: 514 824 2667
If the time slot for the Sound Circle gets changed, I will update this post. So check in again the day before the event, just to make sure of the exact time.

with squeals and hugs,
Banana.

psssst.

Gathering this Wednesday, July 29th, 8:04pm. GAZEBO on Mont-Royal

Hello and Good DAY to all of you!

When was the last time we all sang together?
Has it been tooooo long since?

I hope there are still living clusters of singers who get together to hum a few, and that if discovered a necessity, we've been able to satisfy the need for inner and outer harmony of drones and tones.

Yes, and every note sung calls for another. Maybe the calling has been in the atmosphere for ages and it is now time to answer.
answer yes. and come meet with us, the experimental choir.. under the gah--zee--boe at MontRoyal - a la montagne.

This Wednesday the 29th,

arrive at 8:04, games will begin at 8:06

Shalla la.

Love and Friendship,

Drone Gathering at Laura's on Friday

This was sent by Laura:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drone_(music)

Imagine a warm shelter, lit with fire. There is a group of people inside, and they are dancing, chanting and playing together. As the night deepens, the chanting builds into an extended crescendo of orgiastic noise, which is sustained for hours, each voice overcome by momentum. Everyone propelling each other towards euphoria, or boredom, the tones eventually collude to form a drone.

Inspired by "The Pulse" in Terry Riley's famous "In C", http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMhvLp8vfB0, Boris, Merzbow, and others, I propose the following:

Come to my house and sing. It won't be difficult; we're going to hold a single note (specifically, D). Singing will be accompanied on the organ, the cello and possibly other instruments. PLEASE COME ON TIME: There'll be half an hour at the beginning to warm up our voices, drink some Scotch and wait for everyone to arrive. At exactly eight-thirty we will commence.

Anything goes at a gathering like this; wear your pajamas, lie on the floor, dance, make animal sounds, whatever. Just keep it droning until half-past nine! Feel free to bring recording devices, and your girlfriend or boyfriend. If you need directions or have any questions, send me an email.

ONE HOUR, ONE NOTE. A PARTY WITHOUT PRECEDENT. BE THERE!
